Not really oil? Plug not installed tight enough?

I don't think there's any way oil can get there unless it's a porous casting.

Clean it out, install plug correctly, monitor the situation?

It is definitely engine oil.... I was thinking valve cover gasket and leaked underneath the washer but I’m not sure.

The way it's constructed, I wouldn't think it would be possible.
Is the valve cover gasket leaking? Replace it if it is.

Doesn’t look like it. It’s cheap and easy enough I may just replace it to be on the safe side. Just wondering how oil got in there if plug was tight..
