Can you shift from D to S in a automatic transmission?
Can you shift from D to S in a automatic transmission?
Hi everyone!
I have a 2019 Honda Civic Ex Hatchback, and I was wondering if there was a way to shift from D to S and vice versa while driving without stopping. I previously had a 2010 Honda Civic and I was able to bump the gear shift between D and D3 while driving with no problem, but whenever I tried to bump the gear shift in my hatchback it doesn't want to budge. Is it possible to shift? Or perhaps do I have to hold the button down when I shift now? (I didn't have to do that in my 2010 Civic) If anyone can help me with this I'll be super grateful!
Thank you!

To pull back to S, you'll have to push the button. You can bump back to D without it, however. You can switch back and forth without issue. The CVT in the 2016+ is different than that of the 06-12. 8thgen had a traditional AT with actual gears it shifted between. The 10thgen has a CVT which is just that: continuously variable

No problem! I do it all the time since I have fancy pants paddle shifters in my '18 Sport hatch

Absolute blast to drive, especially since I'm tuned to 21psi (from the factory 16.5psi) and have a bunch of other goodies installed on my car. Check out the "look how she's growing" link in my signature (or click here) if you wanna check it out

Definitely more up and go than regular D mode. Paddle shifters staying in gear as opposed to going back to auto-CVT mode after [x] seconds is kinda cool.
I use it infrequently, but when I need to get onto the freeway and maneuver out of the "pack", S mode definitely helps get me the f away from dumbass Vegas drivers
