Maintenence - GOT TO DO IT!

So yeah, I figure I'll talk a little bit about maintenence. I think that it may be neglected. We do all these mods to our cars and then we kinda forget about the car itself. For example, today I replaced the hardware holding my front bumper on. The original was rusted and looked like crap. Plus I tried to take care of that fitment issue that I have. Oh yeah, and I also cleaned and painted the rusted areas. I could have left it alone and you wouldn't have seen the difference from the outside, but it still matters. Left unchecked that rust could have spread and then I'de be really ticked off.

The general idea is to fix anything that's wrong with your car. Anyway, here are some tips:

- Rotate your tires once every 5,000 for heavy cornering and accelerating and once every 10,000 miles for light cornering and accelerating.
- Check tire inflation once every month. Check tire pressure when the tires are cold (car was off for two hours or more). Then inflate.
- Replace our oil! Follow your reccomended schedule. Just remember that heat is what makes oil old, so the more heat the sooner you replace.
- Clean your freakin' car! A dirty car with mods just doesn't look right. Vaccum the interior. Wax the beast three times a year (more if you'de like). Armor All the plastics.
- Check if all of your turn signals work every once in a while. Bulbs do burn out, so replace them when they do.
- Add fresh windshield washer fluid before you're out. Duh!
- Replace the radiator fluid every once in a while (look at manual, cut time in two if you accelerate more than usual). Add water wetter (by Red Line) in the summer.
- Use fuel injector cleaner every once in a while. At least once every oil change.
- Replace transmition fluid (look at manual). I think I'll do mine at 20,000 miles...
- Replace the air filter (look at manual). Replace the cabin air filter (look at manual). Clean your K&N air filter (for those with intakes).
- See rust? WD-40, clean it, and paint it.
- Properly torque your lug nuts! 70-80 foot pounds in a criss-cross pattern and then re-tighten after 100 miles.

Read the manual and use your noggin'. If something seems like it needs fixing, then it probably does. Your dealer will help you out (I guess)? Mine didn't, so I do everything myself now. I learn more too, so who needs a dealer!

Grey, you rule. Everything you said is accurate and important. Every car driver, Civic owner or not, should be sent this list and they should be made to follow it (I don't want to through stones in a glass house...). I commend you on your efforts...

Aw... ::sniff:: ::sniff:: Finally, some recognition.
Seriously though, just trying to state a point.
Mods are all good and well, but without maintenence it's just a nono.

This is all pretty basic stuff you should have learned at 16 when you first got your license.
