2016 Touring

I have the new Touring sedan but wonder about some things. The adaptive cruise control shows a car in front when the car is actually one lane over to the right. It is much more frequent when lane assist is on. I don't know if this is the way it was designed or if there is a problem.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: 2016 Touring

Review ACC and LSF info that begins on page 416 in your owners manual, see if it can answer your questions.

If your ACC keeps pace with a car in the next lane instead of the car in front of you, that would be a real problem.
That might indicate a problem with the aiming of the radar unit.

If the car slows down or comes to a halt because it sensed a car stopped in a different lane, that may be a problem if the lanes are straight.
(If the lanes are curved, the radar may detect whatever is directly in front of it instead of sensing what is in your lane ahead.)

I really have not had a chance to experiment with the ACC and LSF during my somewhat brief test drives.

Go to the dealer and test drive another similar car to see if it acts the same?

Re: 2016 Touring

I just purchased a 2016 Honda Civic Touring and have been using the ACC, and have noticed that on curves, it will follow the car in the lane next to me. But on straight roads it follows only the car directly ahead of me.

Yea, the radar points directly forward from the front of your car, it cannot bend around curves. That means the Adaptive Cruise may react to whatever is directly in front of the car.

(If equipped, the CMBS system can apply brakes for the same reason)

You have to be alert and ready to take over driving at all times, you can't snooze behind the wheel.
If you're in heavy traffic on a curvy road, that's probably not a great place to be using cruise anyway?
