Hi, first time poster, first time Civic owner. I have a 2000 Civic with 110K miles on it for my everyday high mileage wear-and-tear car (original owner garaged it for years.) I have to take it to a shop because hand/wrist problems make it hard to do the work myself. It's time to change the timing belt and water pump (estimate is just under $500). Since most of the expense is in labor and the mechanic is already popping off belts and covers, is it a smart move to get these things done at the same time? What might it do to the cost? I'm assuming they'll be working inside the engine bay, not pull the engine out. BTW I'm having the work done in Richmond VA.
Really appreciate your help. Thanks!
- replace PS, A/C, and alternator belts
- replace valve cover gasket, camshaft and crankshaft seals (shop says there's an oil pan gasket leak; estimate just under $400)
- replace tensioner
- adjust the valves
Really appreciate your help. Thanks!

yes i would do all of that except the valve adjustment,
unless its absolutely nessessary, which i doubt
if the thermostat is original i would replace that also while the system is drained

Since the car is 14 years old, if it were mine and I planned on keeping it and planned on putting another 100K on it, I would have them check the valves and also replace the upper and lower radiator hoses. Already off on one end anyway. Only OEM dealer parts only. If aftermarket parts, reuse the OEM. If you are having the work done by an INDY, carry dealer parts to them or work out a deal and make sure you see them before they install them.
