RSX-R engine!

well this is a topic that i think should be brought up........and it is a little food for thought.......it is something that i have been thinking about for a little while especially since HAsport has come out with the motormounts for the K-series.........but anyway......If you could get a DC5/RSX-R Engine for 6500 bucks(jdmhondaparts.com) with the motor mount it would be 7gs.........damn that is dough........but do you think that is a better route to go then to spend like 4gs on an aftermarket turbo system from a big company like Greddy or one of them (cause we all know it is coming out). I like the whole All-motor idea.....wouldn't it be a safer bet too........and performance wise which one would you rather have, that all motor DC5-R engine or.....the sound of that blow off valve.........you wouldn't even be able to run the boost high either.......anyway just tell me what you guys think......not like I have the money yet.......Just wondering what you guys(and gals) are thinking.......PEACE!

i think id go with the k20, since then you wouldnt have all the up keep you get with a turbo, plus doesnt that motor just look sweet in our cars

btw: ive been into this scene way before f&f, and i like the alum. wings, if they go with the car, and i like th huge flame-like decals, down the sides of the car, does that make me a wanna-be?

I would go with the K20 also. You could always turbo the K20 and get even more power out of it. Once you turbo the D17 you are looking at around the same power as the K20, but you could probably get more torque out of the D17 turboed. It's kind of a toss up. Either one is expensive but which would you rather have?

the k20 swap would cost a lot more than a custom turbo, so far everyone's turbo has been about $30000-5000 the engine alone cost $5000+ then the motor mounts $650, the subframe, suspension, hub, radiator other things for the k20 $2000 plus labor, you are looking to spend almost 10k, vs 6k at most.

but yes, it would be sweet to get the k20, but then you suddenly have more options to spend more money, a whole rsx-r suspension swap, along with special type-r parts.. 5 lug wheels.. etc...

if money isn't a problem, the k20 but if you are holding on this money to get married, the turbo

Just wait a couple more years for the k20 to drop its price, then swap. Anyways I did a search for the k20a2 at car-parts.com and it yielded some pretty low prices. I don't know how accurate those prices are but they ranged from $2200-$6000.

i cant really say either way which one i would prefer, but if you get the DC type R engine, im guessing that the compression ratio is gonna be REALLY high, and the engine would also require really high octane gas. now, i dont think its practical to turbocharge an engine with such a high compression ratio, but i gues you could always just build up the internals and go the N/A route. its really a question of what you want to do with this car, and how you want it to come out in the end? go DC type R and you have A LOT more potential than just turboing our little engines, but its also way more $$$$

what i dream of doing is putting as much of the engine and suspension components of the new ITR into my civic, that would be so badass plus i'd have 5 lugs, and front and rear disc brakes, as well as the aluminum lower arms the ITR has and of course the wonderful engine and trans. granted, that would cost close to the cost of my car (or at least its current resale value) but i wouldnt care:-D

get the k20a2 and the hondata retuned ecu...same power as a DC5R engine (k20a) for less dollars.

When it comes down to it, its all about the money. Everyone on here would love to do the K20 swap, but not eveyone has a lot of money. Most of the people that you see doing the swap or going with a custom turbo is buying everything at crazy prices. $4000 for a custom turbo or $10000 for a complete swap(thats what two shops around me quoted me) is a lot of money to spend on a civic. There's many ways you can get what you want a cheaper prices. You can wait a year or two, save your money and do the swap then. It will not be as expense then. But if your the type of person who wants to be one of the first, than look around in junk yards and check the internet for a wreck RSX that you can get cheap. A good example for you, my friend bought a H22 drop out from a 00 prelude for $100. No joke. He had to drive a good distance to get and had to take it out himself, but you see what I'm taking about. As for doing a custom turbo you would be stupid to pay $4000 for it. The only parts you need to have custom made is the piping and the exhaust manifold. You can easily buy a used turbo thats still in good shape cheap. Take a look on ebay. and everything else is pretty much universal so those won't be as expensive. But everyone has then own ways.

good points.....everybody is prob gonna wait for the price to go down 5gs or 6gs is alot to spend on a motor right now......I just see no use in modding the D-series....that is the main reason I wanna do the swap.....start with a better platform ya know.........O......and to Satans enemy.....it doen't mean your a wannabe.........it just means you got no originality and you style is wack!........I'm just playin with you man....if you like those big Ricer wings and those big Ricer stickers.....you go for it....more power to ya.....I'm into those clean rides.......but that is just my preference........to each his own, ya know.....Peace!

you will also lose the machine port polish, reenforced pistons, chromoly flywheel and the lsd, potiential for a full exhaust and the cool red valve cover

then again, 11.5:1 means it's gonna rape you with 100 octane gas

with me having an si, and the block pt #'s being the same, i could essentially swap the k20a2 head into my block and have the rsx-s engine bolted to my 5sp. I bet the head is alot cheaper to get by itself, plus by just buying the head, its already removed so u can do easy work on it such as 3 angle port and polish and cams before u install it.

HEAD SWAP BETTER WORK! plus the fact that my i/h/e 100% bolts up to the engine, the head swap should yield close to or maybe a little above 200 wheel hp with the hondata flash as well.....only thing i would need is clutch/flywheel and i will have a bad sleeper.
i can see it now....

Hey look, its one of those ugly new slow si's. lets go mess with it.

(thinking) okay these guys dont have the slightest clue what they are getting into.

them (revving and calling names)

then i just walk them like a stepchild. i cant wait stock my car is pretty good but not that impressive.....with the potential though, look out.
