For all of you with K&N drop in filter!
I just ordered two, one for me and one for gf's car, and i had a question or two. Explain the elastic looking piece that is attached to the filter, how does that work? And also, how often do you clean the filter? I hear that a dirty K&N performs better than a new paper filter.

K&N reccomends that you open your filter box and examine the filter every 30,000 miles. If it's dirty, then clean it. If not, then check it again at 50,000 miles and clean it. Actually, they say to clean it at 50,000 miles regardless of whether or not it's dirty. Not after just cleaning it at 30,000 miles though. Duh! Don't worry about it though. It'll be a while before you have to clean it. Just remember when you installed it (at what mileage. Maybe write it down and stick it near your maintenence schedulew or something...
It's good practice to check the filter each time you change your oil. I'm sure the factory element won't get dirty as fast as a short ram intake like I have on my car, but mine needed cleaning with in 10k miles.
What is the part # for the K&N O.E. style for the 2002 Civic with the V-TEC? I'm going to go back to the stock box and sell my AEM Short Ram.
