Problem with Tanabe SRM after driving 2k miles in 6 days
Hi, I'm hoping someone has either 1. run into this problem before or 2. will be able to let me know how to contact Tanabe about this.
So I've had this exhaust on my car, the full cat-back, for about 2 years now, and I haven't run into any problems. I took a trip down to New Orleans from Pittsburgh, about 1k miles, and then drove back 4 days later. The trip down we took straight, which was about 20 hours, stopping every 4 hours or so to let the car cool down. Then 4 days later we took the trip back, spreading this one over 2 days, about 500 miles 1 day and 500 the next.
So I get to work today, no problems yet, then after a half day, I start heading home and my exhaust sounds "different". So I stop and take a look, and the brackets on the exhaust are completely sheared off. Almost like they just snapped. So I take it in to Monro, and they raise it up. We look at it and we already know the brackets have been sheared, but the weld by the resonator halfway up from the cat is completely broke open as well. We guessed it was because of the weight of the muffler after the brackets sheared - and this caused the weld to just "break open".
Anyways, has anyone else run into a problem like this with theirs? I do know the car rubbed a couple times going into restaurants on our way down, but I always checked out the muffler and exhaust after I heard something - and there was never any damage. This might've been caused by the extreme temperature difference between New Orleans, 60 degrees, to Pittsburgh, about 15 degrees, after the extreme amount of mileage placed on the car in that short amount of time. I don't think an exhaust like this should break after 2 years of owning it, as I thought buying something like this would alleviate any concerns of replacing an exhaust in the near future.
Any thoughts are welcome.

Dang, sorry to hear this man. Have you looked on their homepage for anyway to contact them? I've had the SRM on for 6 months now. Mine keeps getting deeper and deeper, which is great, but sorry, i haven't had any problems. I do remember when i got the exhaust from UPS. When i opened the package, i remember seeing a sheet about how they handle broken products, problems, etc. If you still have the shipping box, which i doubt cuz i don't have mine, then look in there for it. Best of luck to ya
Ok...........
So I just got off the phone with them, and I guess I just voided my warranty. Even if I have a receipt from Monro dated today, and a detailed affidavit from the mechanic stating that nothing was done to it beforehand - once there has been any work done on it, the warranty is null and void.
So word to the wise - if you Tanabe exhaust breaks in any way, shape or form, pull over, get out your jack, take the entire exhaust off, risk getting pulled over and a ticket handed to you, grab the original purchase receipt, drive (illegally mind you) to the UPS store and ship all of it back to them. Then you might, might, have a chance of them doing something about it.
Thanks for playing

I'm sorry man to hear that man that really stinks. I have had my tanabe for close to 2 years now also and dont have any problems. Except for it used to bang up against the metal bracing under the car when it rained. But now that I have my megan racing downpipe it rarely ever does that anymore.
