Intakes
i got 3 q's about intakes, one: if i install a CAI or a short ram, how much mpg will i lose? second: i herd if u get a CAI, it isnt all that good to drive in the rain..is that true and why? third: i would like to buy a intake from either AEM or INJEN, and ive seen their catalog, and arent all 04-02 ex/lx/hx/dx..etc civic engines the same?(well, except AT and MT tran) does it matter what intake i get? as long as its an 7thgen civic intake?
i have a 04 dx auto, i want a V2 aem intake though

1. if you install a cai you shouldn't lose any mpg, you might actually raise it because the engine is able to breathe better.
2. Yes this is true if you do have a cai you run the risk of haveing water in the engine due to the placement of the cai systems. the risk of his happening isn't very big you would have to submerge the bottom end of the pipe for a good amount of time for the engine to suck up the water.
3. no the engines are not the same in the "manufacter's" eye, theyvary a little bit in placement of bolts and such for the intake. i would recomend buying a system that has been disgnated for your car's trim/engine selection. but if u get an hx system or an ex system with some slight modifications it will work. both companies are very good i myself prefer aem. good luck
hope this helped.

my injen CAI survived a crash. the specific routing of the piping kept the intake isolated from the rest of the components in the engine bay.
hey BTW the aemV2 is not a cold air is a short ram. I just bought a injen CAI on my 01 Honda Civic(Auto). But if you have a auto dx i don't think either one will make a diff because you not have a vtec but i would go with a INjen CAI i will tell you what i think of the injen when it comes in
ex are different han lx/dx models. that goes for auto and manual too. Injen is the only company that i know of that makes an CAI for the automatic civic 01+. i beleive its for EX though. but when your looking for an intake for your dx auto, make sure 1) its not for manual, 2) its for dx model civics and not ex, and 3) think about the pros and cons. check out the parts/reviews link on the site. many reviews based just on intakes alone.
in the end, if you drive in an area where theirs a lot of water puddles and floods, cold air intakes are definately not a good choice. if you got cali weathering, cai would be fine under most conditions.

to add to whats been said, don't expect much in terms of performance gain. What you will get from a CAI or SRI is sound.
You can spend up to $200 for an AEM or INJEN intake or spend $30 on a generic ebay intake and still get the same sound. You decide.
