Exclamation 95 honda civic wont start, steering wheel and brake pad locked.

Soo, my car wont start (acts like its dead but the lights still turn on) and I cannot move the steering wheel or push the brake pad at all. I put it in neutral and tried to push it (I may be small, but I'm strong! jk, my driveway is a slope) but it won't move at all. I did have it started in the A.M., but couldn't get it out of park, so turned it off and put the key in by the gears put it in neutral and then tried to start it. I've tried starting it in park and neutral, I don't know what to do. ANY advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: 95 honda civic wont start, steering wheel and brake pad locked.

I did have it started in the A.M.,
You did have it running, now the key doesn't turn in the ignition?

(If so, then worn out tumblers and key would be my guess.)

I put it in neutral and tried to push it
Last time the car rolled on its own was...?

You said you were messing with the brake light switch: The brake lights must work (brake pedal switch must turn on power) in order for the shifter to release.

I released the shifter by putting the key in the hole right by the gears, idk what its called sorry. But it allowed me to put it in neutral without doing anything (pressing the brakes etc.) my car was working fine 2 days ago and started doing this yesterday. I started it yesterday and turned it off for 30 seconds to put it into gear and then it wouldn't start; steering wheel won't move, the brake pedal won't move at all.

One thing at a time!

Elaborate on this one thing here:
You say all this stuff doesn't work.
I want to know very specific things:
Start with the key.
now the key doesn't turn in the ignition?
Is this correct?

Gotta answer this one first.

IDK, maybe a manual override. Manual shifter release or something.

Point was, the brake lights have to work right in order to have the shifter release when it's supposed to. The release is connected to the brake light switch.

If the brake lights come on when you push the pedal, then the shifter is supposed to release once you have the ignition key (switch) working properly.

If you got the switch pushed too far in, that could hold the pedal applied and make it hard to turn the switch on.

I'm still trying to figure out if you have one problem causing multiple complaints, or if there are really multiple problems.

Try rocking the steering wheel back and forth. My ignition will jam sometimes and moving the steering wheel will free it up.

Re: 95 honda civic wont start, steering wheel and brake pad locked.

You aren't understanding why the steering wheel is locked, and how that can keep the ignition key from turning......
Even when locked, you can still move the steering wheel a teensy bit, that movement is what he is talking about.

Read here, from a Honda Service News article:
Can't Turn Ignition Switch?
Check for Locked Steering

Got a service customer complaining he or she
can't turn the ignition switch to start the engine?
The reason could just be the steering column lock
pin is engaged with the front wheels turned.

Here's what typically happens:
Some folks use the steering wheel to help support
themselves while climbing in or out of the vehicle.
This is very common among elderly or disabled
drivers. Doing this turns the front wheels, which
twists the tires against the ground. The twisted
tires apply torque to the steering column. With the
ignition switch in LOCK (0), the steering column
lock pin is engaged. But the applied torque on the
steering column binds the lock pin, making it
tough to turn the ignition switch. The ignition
switch won't turn to ON (II) if the lock pin isn't
disengaged from the steering column.

Tell your customer there's nothing wrong with the
ignition switch itself. All he or she needs to do is
turn the steering wheel from side to side while
turning the switch. This usually releases the lock
pin so the engine can be started. In some cases,
though, your customer may need to give a good
tug on the wheel. This could easily happen when
parking on a hill and the wheels are turned
sharply before the engine is shut off.

Jacking both of the front wheels up off the ground will release the pressure too.

Yet another thing where there could be multiple causes for your complaint.....Slow down, learn how each part works and how it affects other parts.
