my d16y8 is ****ed

this is the first time im using a forum and thread so bear with me i have a 2000 civic ex with the stock sohc vtec d16y8 but i threw a bearing cuz of all the oil leaks so it knocks REALLY bad so know i have a couple of options and im not sure witch way is the best route first off i want more power preferablly around 150-200 hp and some of the options ive looked at is a b18c swap but then i would need to replace the trans to a b series but i hear that its a big hp gain but a lot of crap to do so i also looked at a lsvtec swap but that puts me in the same boat....my trans is still good and so is my vtec head so maybe go with like a jdm d15b non vtec motor i think that will put me at round 150hp (plz correct me if im wrong) or maybe just get a used d16y8 block but rebuild it from the ground up or maybe buy a used u.s. d15 and build that up with all performance parts still not sure what to do to get more power or what performance parts to install and only thing i have now is a custom ram air intake (o and i dont want a turbo) but like i said looking to get round 150-200hp and not looking to spend more than round 1500 i am a mechanic at acura so i have ppl to help me with this but i still want to do my reserch and get more opinions......

Re: my d16y8 is ****ed

For $1500 grab another D16Y8 block for a couple hundred bucks, freshen it up with new bearings, seals, rings, etc. Take the head and slap on a stage 1 cam, get a CAI, headers and an exhaust and wammy, 160hp. All of that should run you about $1000. If you want to spend the full $1500 then get a nicer header like an smsp replica, micropolish the crank, maybe do a .5 bore to get a little more displacement without sleeving. Refer to the phrase: KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). The extra +40hp or so that the cam/bolt ons will give you will be plenty for a fun daily driver.

Re: my d16y8 is ****ed

Stage 1 cam can safely run on stock valvetrain; its basically an oem replacement performance part but check first with the manufacturer. I know for the crower cams this is the case. Port and polish is always good but won't net you much so I wouldn't recommend it if you can't do it yourself.

Everything else sounds good.
