Side Speaker Installation [SOLVED]

Hi. I searched the forum but couldn't find my answer.

Here's my first issue. Which one is positive and negative?

Name: hao3gSc.jpg

Here's my second issue.

What are all these wires. My speakers came with a white wire and a white/grey wire but what are the blue set of wires and what do they connect to on my aftermarket spearkers?

Do I chop off this stock harness or is there an aftermarket harness I can clip to my side speakers?

Thank you.

Re: Side Speaker Installation

Fat terminal on speaker is + (Crutchfield forums answer)

Second set of wires goes to tweeters when equipped. If not equipped the wires may still be present anyway.

I might crimp some male spade terminals onto the new wiring and just make little short jumpers to connect with the original plug

Thanks ezone.

What do I do about the leftover wires. I think I have tweeters next to my side view mirrors, they look like mini, round speakers.

Re: Side Speaker Installation

Extra wires? I'd leave them all alone. I'd grab a few crimp-on spade connectors and use the new wiring, whip up a few jumpers similar to this:

Size: 545.3 KB

plug into the new speaker and the original connector, tape in place so they can't fall out

EDIT: Damn, that's a big picture

Thanks ezone.

I've been tinkering with my audio electronics with the negative terminal still on my battery.

How risky is this?

WHAt car are you working with? I used a 99 diagram since that's the car in your info. Did I miss something? If not a 99, I'll have to regroup.

From your link, for a 99 Civic:

Front Speaker Size and Location: 6 1/2″ Doors
Left Front Speaker Wire (+): Blue
Left Front Speaker Wire (-): Gray/Black
Right Front Speaker Wire (+): Red/Green
Right Front Speaker Wire (-): Brown/Black

What I posted above
front left

Blue +
Gray - (should be gray/black, sorry)

front right
red/grn +
brn/blk -

Looks almost exactly the same to me. How about you?
More edits: There are actually more colors listed in my diagrams, colors may change among different harnesses between the radio and the speaker

left+ = blu, blu, red/grn or blu, 96-97 model blu, and red on the tweeter
left-= gry/blk, gry/blk, brn/blk or gry/blk, brn/blk 96-97, and blu on the tweeter

right has more like that too, shall I write it all down? LOL

I've been tinkering with my audio electronics with the negative terminal still on my battery.

How risky is this?
Depends on your comfort level and skill?

I have no problem working with live wires most of the time, and if I feel any work carries significant risk i will certainly disconnect the battery. If I blow fuses I know how to find and fix that quick, I don't need to post on a forum and get told I should have disconnected the battery LOL

D'oh! Nooby mistake.

I'm working on 97-99 Civic EX 2 door. I knew they were similar but I enjoy pointing things out.

LOL. Ok. I was just determining my risks.

I also bought one of these bad boys. Life is heck of a lot easier with the correct tools for the job

I felt like a monkey figuring out how to use it, though.

What, you got half of a 97 car welded to half of a 99 car? (I've seen bodyshop guys who can do this work very well)

My diagram is for 96-00, and various differences are noted in the diagram:

96-97 may have a few sections of different colored wires than 98-00. The diagram says "or" between color sets where this may be found.

96-98 may use different terminals than 99-00, those are labeled with (*) along with alternate terminal designation in the diagram I'm using.

I can't hotlink the diagrams I'm using, sorry.

Err, you better be checking VIN tags to see if they all match.
Decode the VIN to see what year it actually is.

Dashboard VIN plate
Drivers door jamb VIN sticker
VIN stamped top center of firewall near fuel filter

do the body panels/doors have the small VIN labels? (can't remember on a car that old)

Oh hey. I forgot about the ol' VIN number check. And yes. I found it on my door panel.

It's a confirmed 97 Civic EX.

Why is your TP positioned the more difficult way?

But do all of the VINs match?

Why did someone think it's a 99?
Emissions sticker/hood from a different car or something?

To divide the weak from the rest.
