Speaker issue (Wiring/Weather Proofing issue)

Hello,

Little Info... My car is a 98 honda civic dx coupe.

I'm replacing my cars speakers in the front doors and I have a small issue with my passenger side speaker. A while back I noticed that water was leaking through the speaker cover whenever it was raining heavily or if I was driving high speeds while it was raining. With further inspection I had noticed the speaker had actually stopped working completely. So I removed the speaker and now I am unsure what steps I need to take to stop the rain seeping in.

Should tear apart the panel and put in new weather barrier? Should I seal all the cracks that I find? What kind of weather barrier and sealing products should I use? What should I use to attach the barrier?

I was planning on pulling new wires to replace the water damaged ones to ensure the new speaker works. I'm also planning on double checking the wiring to the stereo deck to make sure i didn't mix up wires the first time I installed it.

Here are some photos with descriptions.

I plan on documenting the further progress on this thread.

Any tips, tricks, or help is appreciated.

Thank you,

How about leaving the speaker out for a bit while you experiment? Run the car through a car wash, or just wait for it to rain again (gotta love the northwest) to determine the source of the leak... then you can devise a solution.

haha forgot to mention those automatic car washes... when I go through I can hear a tinkling noise of water trickling in. it's not until it has pooled that it actually seeps in I guess.

If I had to guess I'd say it's probably the weather stripping on the outside of the window/door that's letting water get in. Super common issue on the rear window of Toyota 4Runners.

All doors that have roll down windows are designed to allow water to pass through them. You can't stop it. About all you can do is control the water flow away from the speaker.

Get waterproof marine speakers? Fix the vapor barrier/plastic liner? Devise a gutter system? Get plastic speaker shields?

That I have noticed to have a minor gap. I also noticed the plastic strip on the door(exterior) was loose on the front one. Might have to silicone and replace the weather stripping.
