'96 rear main seal

My son's '96 DX manual transmission (~160k) has a large oil leak that we're pretty sure is coming from the rear main seal. We're planning on replacing it next week. A big complicating factor is, the car is in Upstate NY and I'm driving out from CO for his college graduation. We hope to fix it in a day or so. I will be bringing all the tools and parts I think I'll need, but inevitably there'll be something lacking. There's always something....
What other parts should be replaced in the process? the clutch works fine and was supposedly replaced 20K ago by the PO. I wonder if the seal was replaced then, too but was installed improperly. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: '96 rear main seal

I've read about a clutch alignment tool in some posts about replacing the seal. What is this and is it essential for installing the clutch?

It is essential for installing a clutch. It lines up the clutch discs properly.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: '96 rear main seal

Some aftermarket clutch kits come with a lineup tool.
