I have a 2001 Civic EX and very recently I've noticed the red brake light on the dash will come on even though the e-brake isn't in use. Then today the window wiper switch doesn't turn on the wipers at the lowest speed, only the second and third. Now the locks don't lock with the switch on the driver side door. I have to manually lock both doors. Finally the remote lock I have lights up but doesn't lock the car anymore but that could had be a dead battery in the remote 🙃
any help is appreciated!

Brake light could be low brake fluid

The courtesy light probably quit, and the warning beeper doesn't work anymore. The AC may have quit too.


The MICU (multiplex unit) shot craps. Gotta buy the fusebox in the dash to get it.

The brake fluid is fine. However, after doing more research into what ezone said, the mcu is the problem. its $200 new, would a used one work fine?

There's like a couple dozen different choices, and if you get one from a car that doesn't match yours exactly it may cause some odd issues.
Plus, they fail. You takes your chances.

How would I be able to know which one is correct and will work properly? I'm more than willing to get a new one if that's the case

Spend some time digging in in a good online Honda dealer parts catalog, see how many different versions were used from 01-05 and note what about the cars are different.

Year
Coupe/sedan
DX or LX/EX/HX etc.,
transmission type MT/AT/CVT
Maybe more.

I looked at 2001 and found 4 versions for coupe, another 4 for sedan. (did not check for hatchback)
2005 has all different part numbers so at some point between 01-05 they changed, I did not look to see how many times they changed with years between 01-05.

I was able to find one that matches my cars make and model. Its coming in tomorrow so hopefully that fixes the problems im having.

Update: I swapped in the new MCU and it works perfectly! All the problems I had are fixed
