Subaru-style powered headlights

Hey guys, first post here.

I used to drive a Subaru Impreza and one nice thing was that the headlights would shut off when the engine was shut off, even if the switch was still on.

I was thinking I could make my Civic do this by adding a relay like the following diagram:

It would basically depower the circuit when the cig. lighter isn't getting any power (car off or starting).

Anybody see a problem with this? Seems simple enough.

Re: Subaru-style powered headlights

just build a basic HID relay and put pin +86 from the relay to the ACC wire. but make sure you put an inline fuse and a on/off switch just in case u want to disable ur headlights on the fly.

Re: Subaru-style powered headlights

you could also tap ur lowbeam +V into +86 so that if u turn off the connection from ur +ACC you can still control it with ur stock headlight toggle

no need for that complicated wiring diagram.

Meh- the wiring diagram is just straight out of the service manual. The only thing I added is the relay with the blue arrow. (and your sig does say this thread is worthless without pics :-D )

And the stock headlight toggle would still control the lights while the car is on (and the relay receiving power). But this way I could just leave them in the on position all the time and not have to worry about the battery running out while the car is off.
