Rep Power: 286 When will I finish? Hopefully this week. Haven't had much time with Christmas and school.
Working hours? No clue. It hasn't taken nearly as long in working hours as it has in number of days. I spent maybe an hour or so, 2 days per week. Its pretty much all sanded and ready for primer. Just need some more free time.

its in the 98 DX body tho so I cant leave cups in the cupholder and then turn the car on/off. The flip unit smacks the crap out of them.
Ill put a couple pictures in the gallery

My little springloaded door broke off. I cant wait to get rid of the cuphold in favor of a switchboard....

Rep Power: 0 in the 98dx's there is a gay *** little cup holder under the area where my HU is. the springdoor that usually slides over the cupholder had to be broken off.
I am re-doing my interior entirely as we speak.
Ill get some pix tomorrow

Rep Power: 286 Finished sanding today. Primed it too. Just waiting til I figure out what color to paint it. I tried experimenting with some textured blacks but not to my liking yet. I think I'm gonna go straight up flat black.

Rep Power: 286 I've had a nasty Flu for the past few weeks. I haven't been able to touch my project. Anyway, the primed pics won't do much good (primer's clear) So, I'll have to get off my *** and finish it Mon or Tue. I'll post pics then.

Rep Power: 286 Clear primer sucked ***. Found much better stuff. Filler Primer by Plastic Kote. I'm starting to really dig this company - I've been impressed by all their paints so far. Anyway, here's the primed and ready for paint piece.

Rep Power: 242 Damn! looking smooth!!
Are you going to be using a textured paint to finish it up? If so, let me know what company. I'm gonna need some for my kicks once I finally get started on them.

Rep Power: 286 No on the textured paint. I've decided to go flat black and paint the whole radio bezel flat black too once the screen is in.
HAHA. You and I both! A few things contributed to the backup in the project. 1. I'm very picky, patient, slow and deliberate to begin with. 2. I changed the design a couple times. 3. A leaky roof destroyed my progress and forced a startover. 4. Experimented with a couple different things like paints, primers, glass, etc. 5. Flu for nearly a month. However, the paint is drying as we speak. It'll be test fitted and photographed by EOD today.

Rep Power: 271 nice! can't wait to see it. i did the same thing you did but didn't make it extend down like you did. Mine doesn't fit exactly though around the edge it sticks out maybe 2mm but you can see it and it sucks - im thinking about redoing it somewhat like yours depending on how yours looks

Rep Power: 286 Ok, finished Product. Radio still sticks out a little because I havent' had a chance to grind the metal down a little more. But you get the idea. Also, for some weird reason, the color looks a little off in the pics. It's not, trust me. It's dead on. I'll take pics with my other camera later to see if looks better.

Rep Power: 271 ya man, that looks pretty good dude, pretty good indeed - i think we have the same problem though. it doesn't QUITE fit EXACTLY around the dash...ya know what im saying? You can see it in the first 2 pics you posted and its mostly around the corners but it just doesn't sit right. i've had mine done for quite some time now but i haven't taken the time to try and make it right - if you figure it out lemme know!
and i've been trying to get some pictures of my car up since i joined but just keep puttin off taking the pix. i'll try to get some soon

Well, to be honest with you, Mine fits perfectly everwhere except the right side. Incidentally, It's always fit that way, even before I started fabricating. What you see in the pictures is the unit not fully clipped in. I didn't fit it to be in all the way, because I've got to take it out again tomorrow when I file down the metal anyway. The reason yours might not fit well may be the fact that bondo, glass, etc tends to tighten and pull in the edges of abs plastic and maluable materials like it. Knowing this, when I fabb'ed the piece, I braced it with wood to keep the shape as far outward as I could. I also built up the right edge a little bit to rectify the poor fitment from the factory. If your piece shows as much gap as mine in the pic, don't sweat it. These are nto usually exact from the factory anyway, you just notice it more because your attention is drawn to it more. My girl's 04 doesn't fit perfectly either - she's got a completely unmolested factory ride.

Rep Power: 286 Thanks guys. It is a decent amount of work, but worth it for sure. I enjoy fabricating, so its cool that it takes a long time and a lot of trivial attention to detail.
I will be putting a molded screen in the dash where the HU used to be for my car computer. I must say, to all of you with older style Civics, where that particular piece of dash does not extend down the length of the shifter console, I think its 03- under, this proj would be much easier. I got a first-hand look at an 02 the other day and I was like, Damn, I wish my car was this easy to work on.
