stock head to the hiLo convertor, to the amp, to the sub..

ok.. i'm kinda lazy so didn't search, but this is a pretty unique question i think..
basically my setup right now is an absolute 1200w 4chan amp, that's connected
to my 2 12" Rockford Fosgates Punches, and the rc's are connected to my hi lo
convertor cuz i wanna keep my stock head.. basically when i turn off my radio,
the subs go crazy.. the wiring of the amp goes through the hi lo and it's connected
to the rear right speaker.. (this was all done for me, so iono wtF im doing)... so umm..
i don't know what to do.. my subs basically output like a speaker but they hit hard..
this is kinda gh3y.. cuz im not using the full potential of my subs.. i know i should just
get a aftermarket head, but i was wondering if there are anyways around that.. some
how i can keep my stock headunit and somehow bump nicely? and i'd love it so that i
can turn off my radio and not hear my subs going crazy.. pleaseeee help! thnx!

why do you even need a rca converter? i think you amp has speaker level inputs so you can basically tap into the rear speakers without using RCAs.
also try setting your crossover lower....
i'm not too good with audio myself so someone please correct/add things

thanks for the try..
i have no clue.. my box with the 2 12"'s has a wire coming outta it..
and that wire is hookt to my amp.. the amp is then hookt to my hi lo
convertor.. i really have no clue.. but then my amp has rca's coming
out into the hi lo convertor which i guess is tapping into my rear spkrs.

god.. frickn i thnk the easiest way is to just buy a new head.. anyone
got some ideas.. thnks vnlilman for the help.. *sigh* wha to do..

well its most likely the crossover settings.. look on the amp you should see a couple *****.. one is gain, one if cross over.. turn it all the way to the left(counter clockwise) you shouldnt hear all that crazy noise anymore... but then its set to low so just adjust it to where you dont hear any voice coming from the sub

if the subs go crazy after you turn off the radio, maybe you don't have the remote turn on lead connected properly? also, you might want to lower the Low pass Frequency on teh amp, there has to be some *****.. or your amp is really wack. are there switches or anythign on there?

ok i found it.. hehe.. i was able to get rid of the annoyin *** sound,
by lowering the low pass frequency.. but i've decided to only run on
high pass frequency.. cuz when i switch it to full.. it sounds like.. ****!
and i've been messing with them for a while now.. and i'm getn quite
tired.. how should i set everything so that when i switch to full, it wont

You dont want it on full or high....you want it on LOW PASS, with the frequency around 60-80 Hz (if the amp has adjustable xover). It will sound like *** on high or full because the sub is playing all frequencies instead of just sub bass frequencies. So, set it to low pass, between 60 and 80 hz (whichever sounds best to you, and thats if you can adjust it) and then set the gain so the subs dont make popping noises.

Regularjoe is on a distinguished road
Well I can tell you right off it wasn't setup correctly. Your system needs some tweaking young grasshopper ..... you shouldn't need a new HU.

1) The Inputs: That amp has high and low inputs. Since you don't have an aftermarket deck you should be using the high level inputs. There is no point in using an aftermarket LOC when your amp has one built in. Get rid of it and use the speaker wire direct. The less variables and transitions in the amplifier signal the better.

2) The Crossover: That amp has variable high and low pass crossovers. You need to turn on the low pass crossover and set it to about 80hz or so.

3) The Volume: Of course you will have issues w/ the volume. You have bad *** subs and stock highs. The subs should be able to drown out the highs without even trying. All this can be fixed with the gain ****. If you don't like the results then you need to upgrade the highs so they have some chance at outputting the necessary volume to equal the subs. In short you need to turn the gain down to balance the system. You said that now you won't use the full potential of the system. Not true. Gain is for system balance. Your amp can still output all the power it was rated for. But really it will sound night and day better. You have the gain way up, and the bass turned way down and then the fading too. If you turn the gain down then you can put those back to normal. But you shouldn't lose volume if done correctly.

4) Pounding subs when off: This is a remote problem. Really I dunno what you can do about it. If the car is off then its all off. If its all on its all ok. What will get you is when you have the car on but the radio off. In this instance the equipment is all on since the car is on but the radio is off and not feeding a signal. Swapping over to the high level inputs on the amp might help this but I really don't know. The real answer is if the car is on don't shut off the radio!! Just turn it down really low.

Good luck ...

lol.... Yeah, you definately do NOT need an aftermarket head unit if you don't want it. An aftermarket unit provides a cleaner signal and leads to better sound quality. But neither of those issues are the problems you are experiencing. RegularJoe has it right on, you need to adjust your gains and X-Overs properly. The people you talked to that said you needed an aftermarket unit are either lazy and don't want to help you, or they don't know what they're doing. My entire setup is using the stock Headunit so I promise you it can be done as long as it is set up correctly! Good luck!
