Need new rear speakers... now taking suggestions (I know nothing)...

I do not know a thing about car speakers. One of the rear stock ones blew in 4 months. I so pissed at the dealer for not fixing it when it was in there, I told them to just order me the speaker and I'll pick it up and install it myself. Basically, this is so I have a good pair to sell. I have an EX coupe... I think the rears are 6x9's, can anyone confirm this? So what's good? I really don't want to walk into Best Buy or something and get the run around and get screwed into buying crap. Oh, I still have the stock HU, and I have to keep it because of the in dash changer. Thanks!

If you look alittle harder in this forum you would see that these issues have already been answered. but for your record, the fronts are 6.5'' but you will need a new housing or find a way to use the old one. Also if you look in the DIY section it shows in detail. The back are indeed 6x9''. Their's a lot of different brands you could go with but I would go with kenwood. they have a great sound with the factory HU. Thats just one persons opinion though. Try shopping around, The kenwoods are not that expensive for what you get out of them. Good luck.

I would suggest that you consider upgrading your front speakers before spending your money on a set of rear 6x9's. Although I can understand the frustration in having a bad rear speaker, most of your listening is done in the front. Place a WTB for a factory 6x9 (I'm sure dozens of people have them just lying around gathering dust) to get the rear fill working. Then dial in the front stage with an upgraded set of components. That would be the route I would choose. If upgrading your rear fill is a must, then I suggest the following brands:

Pioneer
Infinity
Kenwood

There are many others, but as 6x9's go, they make some of the best.

Good luck and have fun!

Leave the rear speakers stock and power them with your factory head unit. Use a converter and run your front outputs on your head unit to a 2-channel amp and use that to power a set of Infinity Kappa series 6.5" components which will run you about $150 on ebay. As far as the amp goes, there are a lot you can choose from. Try something around 75 watts, and be sure your buying something clean...check with people on the forum on what you can find and we'll help you decide. This will give you the best sound. The reasopn I say leave the 6x9"s is because your front speakers is where 95% of your sound will be coming from and the rear will just help your passengers in the back seat feel special. I disagree with the comments that the rears don't make much difference. I replaced my fronts with a set of 2-way Kenwoods and didn't notice a lot of difference. I then replaced the rears with the same coaxials and it dramatically improved the quality of the sound. My reasoning for this is that the front speakers are way too low in the doors to give you any treble if you use coaxials. The rears bounce the treble off the back window toward your head and can be heard much better than the fronts. I later installed some tweeters high on the door and it further enhanced the sound.

Long story short, tweeters in the doors helps a lot. It doesn't matter if they're add-ons or with a set of components. The rears shouldn't be ignored, as they can greatly enhance the sound. Ignoring the rears is like saying you don't need rear speakers in a surround sound system. Just pick quality speakers.

I would sugest running a JL 300/2 with an audiocontrol 24XS on a pair of wither DDw6 6.5's or a pair of adire koda 6.5" midwoofers, either one installed in birch ply baffles in a 6x9 sape so you cna still in stall them in the factory locations, add a LOC, and everything will run off your head unit just fine.....

thats just my own reccommendation, however.

$860, plus amp wiring kit, plus LOC plus ballfes plus any minor install equip you needed. that would get you the speakers amp and crossover

crazy midbass, even some upper midbass response, rolloff about 3500, the perfect rearfill drivers if your looking to have big sound in the back, even better if your never going to run a subwoofer. incredible range, and a 200-300 watt power handling in a sealed box. they are incredible drivers, if you like rock music, id never run anything else. guitars sound magical on them.

I went with the infinity 6.5 speakers all around. I have a sedan, so all speakers are 6.5 inch. The infinities have very clean sound, especially with a good deck and subs. If you get door panel speakers, I would highly recommend dynamat kits to make the speakers louder and eliminate distortion.
