Rep Power: 0 2002 EPS light
Hi,
i have a 2002 Civic that has the electrically assisted steering without any fluid.
i seem to be having a very intermittent issue when driving, the EPS light comes on and the steering immediately tightens up. The fault doesn’t happen every time - it might not happen for says... then I’ll be reversing slowly and it’ll start coming on.. turning the engine off and on usually clears the problem.
I’ve taken it for a battery test, which has performed fine, I’m looking for some other tests I can do, before I have to take it to Honda for an expensive diagnostic.
i have noticed that when I use the electric windows, the air conditioning will reduce in power fairly significantly.
has anyone experienced a fault like this and how can I beat work out what the issue is?

Re: 2002 EPS light
There is a position sensor on both the output to the wheels and the steering wheel itself. If the computer “detects” a abnormal reading it shuts down the motor as a safety measure and turns the light on.
I would start by buying one those nifty power outlet USB adapters that also shows car voltages. Might be as simple as a failing alternator.

Most cheap scanners will only do powertrain faults.
I went to Autozone once to have them read an ABS fault and theirs would only read powertrain faults too. What a joke. I hate parts stores. Bought myself a better scanner soon after.
