02 Civic car stereo with rear usb

I just bough a Pioneer CD receiver (DEH-X8500BH) to replace my factory stereo in my 02 civic. It does not have a front usb port it only has a rear one, so I know ill have to use a usb extension cable. I was wondering where I should route this extension cable? Also was wondering if anyone else had done a similar install and if they had any tips. Thanks a lot for any help.

You could lead it into the little compartment under the HU

Re: 02 Civic car stereo with rear usb

Before I got Bluetooth for my head unit I routed my iPod hookup into my glovebox. The cable fit nicely in there so all I had to do was open the glovebox plug my IPod in and close the glovebox. Sometimes I would just leave it in there since it was out of site and kept it charged.

I routed it to the small compartment next to the parking brake. Easy to get to and out of sight.

Re: 02 Civic car stereo with rear usb

Thanks for the replies. I like the idea of leading it into the compartment next to the parking break or the space under the HU. I was wondering how i would lead it into here though, would I have to drill a hole or something into it to be able to feed it through? The only thing that seems like it would be annoying with the glovebox is that it seems like it would be too far away to reach when im driving.

Re: 02 Civic car stereo with rear usb

I have long arms and I sit closer to the steering wheel so I could reach it just fine. Also there was about a 1 foot of cable left so I could pull the cable out an plug in my iPod without being hunched over. Might not work for some people.

You will need to drill a hole into the other compartments if you want to put it there. It would look nice if you flush mounted a USB plug there then had another cable that you plugged into from there.

Yea originally I was thinking it would be nice to mount it flush but it seems like just routing to the glove box might be easier for something I probably won't use that often. If I route it to the glovebox will I still have to drill holes or is there an opening I could just feed it through?

Re: 02 Civic car stereo with rear usb

There is an opening. You have plenty of room for the cable. If you pull the little tabs off of the inside of your glovebox it will drop down and you can see up behind the stereo. Actually if you just open your glovebox you can look behind it you and see all the room.

Re: 02 Civic car stereo with rear usb

I cut a hole open in the compartment below the radio to route mine. Works like a charm and keeps my iPod hidden
