Yes I saw the double DIN kit and it would work fine if I didnt want to keep my factory radio. I want to keep the factory radio, remove the lower pocket and install the scanner. I need to find a kit that allows that.

The lower pocket comes out. American International makes a 2 piece kit that has seperate top and bottom pieces. The bottom, if I remember correctly, is a blank panel. It's been a year since I had the civic, but I can check through my parts and stuff and see if I still have the bottom piece. If I do you can have it for the cost of shipping, should you want it. If not, check with your local audio dealer.
Heres a free idea, assuming the part dimensions are all okay:
if your scanner is of the standard shape, its gonna stick out all funny anyways from a panel. so you may as well not flushmount it into the dash at all.
so at this point, if the unit will fit, you could just use doublestick tape (or industrial velcro!) to attach it to the inside of your CD pocket. you can drill a hole in the back to poke in the power wire, then splice the cig lighter wires to tap in another socket you buy from kragens.
in the end, that will require cutting no wstock car wires, will require no panel cutting minus drilling one hole (I recommend the top so small objects that end up in the cd pocket dont fall through into your dash)
and the coolest feature is if you are able to sink it far back enough, you can close your flip door lid (if you have one), so the cop never even sees any radar detector when he pulls you over.
plus, its always nice to look stock
