so ive been looking at b20b engines for a civic ex coupe

is it a bad thing to buy an engine that says "Jdm Honda B20B 97-01 CRV Low Compression Engine DOHC 2.0L Engine Only"
or high compression. just curious because then i wont even consider them as an option to buy ill go with one that doesnt say high or low compression

going for a budget turbo build!!

if you're turboing it you want to start with the low compression engine

so the low compression or high compression labeled in the sales posts arnt a bad thing. got it. start with a low compression engine what else would you recommend doing before just throwing it in and tuning it all up

There's a difference between "low compression", as in the rings are failing, and, "low compression pistons" where the rings are fine and the piston/rod combo is setting a desired lower compression.


Its safer to test and tune a boost build with what would be considered low compression pistons for a N/A build.

Stock N/A for generation is around 9.5 parts gas to 1 part air, N/A. Or 9.5 : 1

Generally to boost a car people drop the N/A ratio. My pistons for example are 8.8:1.

that makes sense but these sale postings just say low compression or high compression nothing about low or high compression pistons and ive done some research along with a few hundred civic build youtube videos and im only planning around 3 to 400 hp at the start some guy did a budget build with around 3500 so i iwas kind of setting my budget up there for now and slowly build it.

but ik that the b20b is a better engine to start off a build rather then the b18

so im mainly just confused about the sale postings since they say nothing about low or high comp pistons just say high or low compression

i get the compression and what its supposed to be i need to know if the sales posts are just bad engines with high and low compression or if thats how they are supposed to be
