Rep Power: 0 2005 civic value package and octane ratings?
I drove out all the 87 octane gas in my 2005 civic VP and put in a full tank of 92. It takes off a lot quicker and has more push to it than it did with the 87, now me being a complete car idiot, is this normal? Thanks.

Rep Power: 0 I dunno guys like I said, just for some reason feels like the car is going a little better. Is putting 92 in my tank hurting my car, since you said it was designed for 87? Are there any ill effects? Also, a question about something I saw in autozone. Some type of 'octane booster' guarunteed to give like +25 horsepower? Is that stuff total bullcrap?

it wont hurt, its just.. higher octane are usually for higher compression engines.. or engines that requires it. we dont even need 87, I believe they pump lower octane with the same engine in Japan. its just generally, thats what we got here in the states. plus economical issues too.
octane boosters are bs. 99% of the time.
just keep to the 87 octane, and your engine will be fine, and your wallet will thank you.
we got people on this board that pumps 92 or "the best" and they think they're awesome. they say silly stuff like "well my parents pay for my gas anwyay, so why not get the best?"

Rep Power: 0 Yeah I hear you. This is a new car for me, and my old car I could fill up with 87 octane for about... I guess 26 or 27 bucks. This car I can fill up 92 octane for 25 bucks. Even at the highest octane at 2.40 a gallon I save money ha. Yeah I guess I'll just go with 87, I figured if I used 92 maybe it would keep my injectors and all that jazz from getting dirty quicker, or dirty at all. Just thought it would make everything run smoother for longer without maintenence needed.
I have another question maybe you could help with. I'm gonna be getting a cold air intake here soon for the car. What kind of performance increase can I expect to get out of it, and can I install it myself or will I have to take it to a shop for it?

Rep Power: 787 I put 92 in mine once and noticed terrible performance. Immediately went back to 89 (i have slightly built motor) otherwise I would run 87. Yes higher octane for a civic will cause more carbon to build in the engine and cause power loss over time.
