Chrome vs. Stainless Steel

So I was looking at the HP Racing site www.hpracing.com and looking at their headers, since I believe I will be going with and HP Racing shorty header, any way I digress. So I noticed that they have three versions available: ceramic, chrome, and stainless. So we all know the advantages/disadvantages of ceramic over stainless, since that horse has been beaten dead. However, I was wondering the advantages/disadvantages of chrome and stainless. Anyone have any thoughts?

From a performance standpoint, nothing. But, providing the chrome plating is well applied, the chrome one would have better corrosion resistance.

I just received the chromed steel HP "Shorty" header from NOPI yesterday and the finish on this thing was horrible. There were pieces of the weld all over the header which were simply chromed over and there was a 2 inch slit in one of the pipes that didn't go all the way through but looked like crap none the less. I have already sent it back and am looking at the Kamikaze now. Could be an isolated incident but just wanted to point it out.

So the disadvantage, would be that the chrome plating could peel/flake off after some point???

I would think that the crome will have a brighter shine, but it most likley wont last to long. The stainless wont be as bright, but it should last longer.

I leave my stainless exhaust on in the winter... and in the spring with some scrubing and polish it looks like the day i bought it. I dont thnk you would be able to clean the crome that well.

Since stainless seems to be the better of the two options.

Does anyone know where I can get a Stainless Steel HP Racing Header (upper portion only)?

I have found the chrome one from nopionline, but I can't seem to find the stainless, no matter how hard I search.

My comment: Depends on what style you want..... as in colors.

If I remeber Right, when heat is appied, Chrome turns Gold in color and Staneless turns blue. OR its the other way around....

Its a matter of heat. wheels never get as hot as a header, and Heat will eventualy brake down just about any thing, or at least weaken it.
