hey everyone. i just bought an 02 civic with an intake and a few other mods.
but the biggest question i have revolves around the intake.
i'm not sure of the brand but the pipe carries to right behind the radiator. before i bought it, the previous owner installed everything but he said he didnt put on the water sensor. i have the part but its not installed. is this a neccessary part for someone living in southern indiana or is it more directed towards flood areas and such. ive read in a few mags about how people in florida have the sensor installed but not much else. if it is a good idea to install.. how much do you think it would cost?

Well it sounds to me like you have a CAI. If it goes into your front bumper on the passenger side, you most likely have an INJEN CAI. It sounds like you're asking about a "bypass valve." Basically when you have a CAI, it is easier to suck water into your engine, and hydrolock it. Mainly because the air filter is lower to the ground to get more ambient air. Many would argue that you need the bypass valve, and some would argue against it. Typically, if you don't drive into 3 foot puddles, then you should be fine. Just use common sense. If you have it might as well install it for good measure. Takes very little time and effort. I believe it fits right over the CAI piping where the upper and lower parts meet, but I'm not sure, I never bought one myself. Look for instructions using the SEARCH feature of the board.

i dunno, there is a sensor that you put into a hole in the cai, but i couldn't get mine to go in either, and didn't bother, just taped it up alittle to keep air from escaping......you could be talkin air bypass valve though

The "bypass valve" IMO is not really necessary. Your filter would need to be completed submerged in order for it to suck up any water.

As for the sensor, that plugs into the back side of the intake (on the top/rear), if it is not plugged in, your "check engine" light may eluminate and remain on.
