Question What size piping on custom exhaust?

I wanted to get a dual exhaust on my civic. Went to meineke and the guy gave me an estimate for $350 for just piping from catback... He recommended that I get a 2.25inch pipe up to the splitter and then use a 2inch pipe. He said since I am not going to change the engin or add turbo or anythign later.. I should do this so I dont lose torque. My question to the experts out there is.....

1. Should I use 2.25inch to the Y splitter and then 2inch to the mufflers?? or is it okay to use 2.5inch pipes all the way.. even after Y splitter?

2. Is this a good price for the custom piping? I am located in New Jersey.. if you guys know a place that gives a better deal please post.

Thanks.

i wouldn't go with full 2.5 all the way.. like he said, you'll lose torque.

his recommendation sounds okay. the 2.25 to 2 after the Y

Also I wouldn't go with dual exhaust, unless you are going for show. You will lose torque and run the risk of melting your fuel line. If you are going for show make the second muffler a dummy muffler, but I personally think that idea is stupid. Why have something that is non-functional?

Oh and go with 2.25"

There are things for looks yes but when it is something that looks like it suppose to add power but doesn't just doesn't seem right.

Oh and with the melting the fuel line, it is just a risk, I do not believe it has happened to anyone on this site but it has happened before in other cars. That is why if you notice most cars with single exhuast have the exhuast coming out the opposite side from where you put gas into the car. Because that is the side the fuel tank is on and is also the side where the fuel line is.

what muffler do you plan on using? and use 2.25" all the way... going from the 2.25" down to the 2" is just making the 2.25" pointless... all it's gonna add is back pressure... and put u right back to stock torque and HP... and now u've wasted all that money when u could have just bolted up a muffler to the stock catback with the same results...

GO WITH THE 2.25" ALL THE WAY....

use the 2.25". And truthfully, the D17 stock doesn't produce enough horsepower or torque to even notice a difference with the duals. You probably won't feel a change in performance.

Sound will be there, but power will not. Unless your getting turbo, but even then, you gain more power with single exhaust.

I have 2.25'' all the way to the hi flo cat. That is what is recommended for our size of engine. I was considering going bigger but 2.25'' was what everyone was telling me. You are going to lose low end with 2.25'', maybe even more with a bigger size, but you will gain top end. Oh yeah, $350?? you are getting raped bro, mine was $120, and I am going to get it re-done at another place for $70.
