CD changer options for use with factory head unit with cd changer controls???
I've been trying to find a CD changer that will work with the factory tape deck/am fm head unit with cd changer controls for an 02 civic coupe. I found one site, soundomain.com that sells a USAspec brand cd changer that CLAIMS to work off the cd changer controls on a factory civic head unit. Anyone try these? or any other brands? Did you need to get an adapter plug or extra harness kits or anything? I really don't want to deal with an aftermarket changer or FM modulated crap (which I have now.. yuck). And I don';t wanna spend 5 bills on the Alpine setup from honda parts..
There's an OEM honda 6cd-changer fits under the stock radio/cdplayer (where the pocket is). $470
There's also a 6cd changer that you can put in your trunk. $405
Those are the only ones that work with the controls on the radio/cdplayer. (the in-dash changer has it's own buttons, but I think you can use the radio buttons)

It's OEM so of course it's expensive. OEM's expensive like that. Hondawerx.com sells European OEM sideview mirrors for $400. OEM's expensive like that. go figure.
I wanted a changer too (I hate sitting in traffic). I wasn't going to settle with 6 cds. I went bought a Pioneer 12 disc changer a few years back. I should have just waited until mp3 players became mainstream. Who need 6 or 12 discs when you can put 150 songs on a single cd.

The OEM changer was so worth it. Now all be it, I got it tossed in free when I bought the car but I love that thing. So much easier than a trunk mounted thing. I've never gone through all 6 straight, but its good to be able to flip back and forth around depending on what I feel like.
yeah. Trunk hanging cdchangers are a pain, thats why I ask my passengers to give me their cds before we get going. I'm thinking about upgrading my stock radio to an OEM radio w/ cd player, so if there's a cd I want to listen to, I don't have to pop it into the changer cartidge.
My Pionner changer had a little wired receiver that I put next to the cigarette light socket. It also came with a mini wireless remote. That's what I use to flip through my 12 cds. Radio commercials **** me off too much.

Shouldn't this be in the ICE forum? anyway, I doubt you can find one that will work off of an OEM tape deck, it would probably still have to be an OEM cd player, and I just happen to have an extra one of those. I am mounting my AFtermarket 10 disc DVD changer under my driver seat so it will be pretty easy access once I get used to where it is exactly... the aftermarkets are usually easy because they come with cd books that you just pop into the changer.

Alpine cd changers work. I had one in my 94 and transferred it to my 02. All that was needed was a cable and adapter for the new style headunit for about$90. I got the changer at Circuit City for about $300, including install. I installed it in my 02, very easy.
The oem 6disc IN DASH looks sweet...how's the quality? are they known to eat discs or anything like that? If not, seems like it would be worth saving for... hate to lose the pocket tho..
I just bought my 03 civic and was considering the 6 indash til the dealer wanted about 600 for it.. i was working at best buy at the time and for about the same price i have the kenwood 622 head unit, the power keg (10 gig) mp3 player with works direct with the head unit.
a 400 watt amp 4 channel.. is was a freebie... replaced all the speakers with pioneer 3 way 120 w.... sound nice... all i need is a good amp and some subs... but til then it will have to do... sound 10x better then OEM speakers....
