Manual conversion question!

Manual conversion question!
I was planning on doing the Auto to Manual shift boot conversion. On the 12th step of the DIY, it says to pull the red wires. Dont those red wires just light up the gears of the automatic shifter? So then is it possible to hook up a neon to those red wires, that way the neon turns on when ever my lights are on.
Oh, and also, i know ive asked this before, but i wanna make sure. Is the manual shift boot of the coupe and sedan the same? Honda claims it isnt and wants to charge me like 30$ more for the sedan manual boot? Thanks everyone.
