Speaker Replacement Question

Hi, my name is Rob and i am new to the forum. I just bought a 2014 Civic LX and i am going to replace the stock speakers with aftermarkets i ordered from Crutchfield. The installation instructions they sent me includes a step that says you have to trim off the plastic rim on the backside of door panel / rear deck that surrounds the stock speaker mounting bracket. I will be using speaker adapter brackets that look like they enable the replacement speakers to fit in just like the stock speakers. Does anyone know if you still have to trim off plastic rim even if you're utilizing adapter brackets ? Thanks for any advice...
