Questions on 2010 Civic DX (adding keyless entry)

My wife and I just bought a 2010 Civic DX recently. The only downside to the car is that it does not have keyless entry.

Currently, the car does have power windows, but does not have (and has never had) power locks in the doors. In this case, I know that I will have to install the actuators and maybe some kind of brackets for them into each of the car's four doors. The good thing though (from calling around to car audio installers) is that it sounds like all of the electric wiring should already be present in the doors.

Here is the catch, I want to do this myself and as inexpensively as possible.
I was quoted anywhere from $550 - $650 installed and that is about DOUBLE what I would like to spend. An alarm to go with this would be nice but it is definitely not necessary... I am mainly just going after the keyless entry.

If possible, I would GREATLY appreciate if someone could please provide detailed instructions on parts and prices, with installation diagrams, web links, etc.

Thanks so much!

Re: Questions on 2010 Civic DX (adding keyless entry)

i put a viper alarm in an 02 LX (already had power locks and adding OEM keyless was $300 with no alarm, $450 with alarm) and it cost $200. so to put lock actuators in for $100......not likely. possibly if you buy all the actuators and switches and do the install yourself.

what you need to do:
1. determine the price of the alarm you want (aftermarket alarms will always be cheaper than OEM keyless)
2. get part numbers for the actuators you need and get pricing
3. get part numbers for the switches you need and get pricing

once you have that, you'll be able to determine if the money saved by doing it yourself is worth the amount of time it takes to do it. i've installed an alarm before and it was NO FUN! and i have a EE degree.
