So this is what I'm looking for. I want to upgrade the speakers in my civic. I have a Civic sport.
but what I'm really looking for is some good bass. I don't want to get a subwoofer in my trunk because there is always a lot of stuff there, and I need the room.
So I'm looking for speakers I can almost just drop in, that have a good bass, especially the mid range, and a decent low range. i was recommended some Alpine Type-s's. any other ideas/recommendations?
Edit: and yes, I am willing to add an amp to the whole system so the speakers can get more power. i just don't want anything more in the trunk.

Any speaker is going to sound better with a new amp or new head unit powering them than the stock one. But you will get a decent thump from them. If you are looking for good bass add a sub.

we (my family) puts alot of stuff in the trunk, there is no room for a sub. thats why i'm looking for some speakers that will give me some good bass for just speakers, and i'm willing to add an amp if necessary.

I would go with a set of focal poly glass or even a set of polk mm and run them of a alpine pdx amp, you will need a LOC to install with a factory head unit but they will sound great and give you nice full sound.

Sorry what's a LOC? I'm going to install an amp and sub and need to know what all I need to get. I have a sub and amp already but no wiring and I'm not sure what's the best type to get.

FYI I just order 2 sets of Kenwood KFC-1662s for my 2009 Civic LX-S
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KFC1...pair=FFDesign|[rank3]3-way
These will be in the car Thursday evening... No amp or HU upgrade...
I will post my thoughts once they are installed...

Re: 2009 Civic speaker upgrade
Got these installed tonight and I am really disappointed, they sound terrible with the stock HU... No bass at all and much worse overall than the stock speakers...
So will an amp fix this?

Re: 2009 Civic speaker upgrade
Sorry, an amp doesn't have much to do with the sound of a speaker. An external amp is always more efficient, but does not impart any tonal characteristics to the signal, unless its a crap amp and then its just bad. I could go on and on about amps, but i won't now.
$50 for a pair of speakers is a waste of money. With speakers, especially car speakers, you get what you pay for, and most speakers under $100 will probably be no better than the stock speakers.
They're expensive, but Boston Acoustics, or another similar high end brand will be your best bet. BAs are not too expensive, but have a great sound.
I have a 08 SI and i think the stock speakers and subwoofer are pretty decent, but i can tell the head unit is way underpowered and not the greatest.

Thanks Phil, I appreciate the response... So I am now thinking that an aftermarket hu is probably my best bet...
I have the usb cable in the center console so I would like for that to still work, as well as the speed sensitive volume control... Any suggestions for a hu that would allow for these to still function?

Im looking for some replacements as well. I already replaced the stock speakers with four pioneer 6.5" speakers. They sound better overall than stock but still have a harshness at high volume. I know from prior experience the issue is not the head unit. So ive also been eyeing the polk db series slim form factors. They can be found online for $70 /pair. I paid $100 for the four pioneers and theyre really not bad for only $25 /ea. It's a matter of getting more for just a little more $$.

That being the case(someone correct me if I'm wrong here) you *should* be able to mount a mid-bass driver in the back deck. It won't be the boom of a sub, but the bass will sound incredible compared to anything from the factory.
