Did the engine shut down once you closed the door??

What happened when you tried to r/s after that?

I've been working on cars for 6 years now. But the level of difficulty on the alarm isn't something for beginners or even much for intermediates. I have a good understanding of electronics which is why I took on the task, but without a service manual and understanding of the alarm functions, I get stumbled on.

I ordered the Service manual for my car, but it won't be arriving for a few more days as its 'suposively' back ordered from Helms.

When I removed the key, the doors unlocked, I opened the door, engine shut off, closed the door, armed it. R/S did not work.

Re: alarm works but not remote start

We'll have to focus on the 689M. I'm not sure if it's supposed to shut down before you close the door or not. I've never used one.

Let me do some more research and try and come back with some other thoughts for you.

But hey, it least it's starting with the remote (albeit potentially unsafely). We'll get it.

If you haven't yet, yes.

But since it would r/s with the blk/wht grounded, it doesn't seem like that's your problem.

I'm pretty sure it's with the 689M.

Re: alarm works but not remote start

haha, yeah. I got a lot further than before. At least i'm not going to kick the module out the door.

I'm going to try a few things myself, like pressing the clutch down while remaining in the car. See if maybe its not getting a good connection or something.

That would make sense. I'll do a tach learn anyhow.

Re: alarm works but not remote start

ok, so it did actually start. but 3-5 seconds later, it shut itself off and then tried to restart itself but never cranked or started. Then the doors would unlock and the dash would shut off.

Re: alarm works but not remote start

Update: Got everything to work once. But then when I try it again, now the motor won't shut down.

Something must not be connected properly or something. Not sure what it is. But sometimes it works, and more times it doesn't. I wonder if something else needs to be connected, or it takes a while for things to reset, or maybe i wired something wrong somewhere.

Update: It seems that it takes a while for the unit to reset. Because I stopped at 4 different places tonight and not a single problem.

Re: alarm works but not remote start

It seems to work. When it doesn't, I think its because I need to leave the door open longer or something.

Is there a 'end user' guide that is online in PDF format possibly? I never got the book - I heard your supposed to get one, other than the install manual.

And I still can't find which connector on the top 42 pin plug for the hood pin trigger.

My siren is also low, whether its just chirping or going off. Anyway to get more volume out of it? Also, do you recommend getting one with a built-in backup battery?

I've got a picture of this inside the car.

This is harder to say. Most likely it is a bad ground for the siren. You can meter the red wire @ the siren to make sure it's getting a full 12 volts as well.

Battery backup is cool. Nothing wrong with it at all.

the ground is actually right to the battery's negative post. I have a relay in the car giving it 12v.

Re: alarm works but not remote start

email sent.

So the red wire on the siren isn't hooked up to the brown wire on the main harness on the viper brain? Try removing the relay and just hooking it up that way.
