What pads ?

Wife's car needs pads It IS an 04 Acura EL and these are the Oems from when we bought the car New.
Discs have almost brand new appearance .. little to no rust even.
Car has ~89k kms/50k miles. Old.. but not yet worn out

Why am I here?? According to parts lists I've being looking at: Same Discs (FR/R) as up to 2011 Civics.
Plus there is little to No activity in 7th gen forums

OEM brakes work acceptably well (could use a bit more braking.. But Wife is primary user) They don't eat discs, they barely dust and make Zero noises.
Would happily Buy OEM pads..
but pesky Dealer wants 190$ (cdn) for the f/r set.
Bit too much IMO.
Rock Auto and Autoanything have a Bewildering choice.. at affordable prices.
Have had Carbon tech Pads in my old integra.. years ago.
Had to remove them as they literally Only worked when hot. Almost rear ended the car twice as result. Enough of that Nonsense.
I use, for 15 years now Axxis Metal Masters in my saab 9000. These dust some, they chew rotors.. some. But they also stop V Well.
Saab easily leaves for dead (going And stopping) Son's alleged 275hp Accord V6.. as reference.

Sooo... Short of trying a bunch of Pads to see/feel exactly how they perform.
How in hell does one choose 'aftermarket' pads ?

Re: What pads ?

Front OEM are $190..part only (you install)? If so, seach official Honda parts dealers online for better price..examples: HondaPartsNow, Majestic Honda, Honda Parts Online..etc.

Here's a read concerning pad composition: http://www.carsdirect.com/car-repair...to-be-aware-of . I prefer ceramic as I find them to be quieter than the others and as mentioned in the article..they seem to help rotors last longer. Doing a correct install is the most critical part.

Here's a few brands that get mentioned alot online:
Hawks, Akebono, Raybestos, Wagoner, Bosh.

Re: What pads ?

Thank you for the links.
Dealer is wanting 190$... all Taxes in.. for Front And Rear pads together.
Which is 85$ per axle. pre tax.
Seems C.Tire does carry Fronts as well.
Prices though are within 15$ of OEM.
Frankly ... for that small a savings .. not nearly enough to balance the risk of fitting Brand X pads.
As in: if these prove lesser than the oems in any way.. I'm gonna get Hot tongue.. for the duration that those pads remain in 'her' car.

Buying online from USA also means Zero taxes.. which usually balances out shipping charges.
Cheap Honda Parts wants ~70$ cdn /axle .. Plus shipping for oems. Better certainly, but not hugely so. Still, a usable option.
Also...Rockauto with CDN $ pricings.., albeit sans shipping charges:
Centric C-metallics at 10$ an axle
Centric Stop tech Streets at 39$ Canadian!
And too many others to choose from, in between
Then there is Autoanything with their large selection and free shippings

That said; IF Axxis Metal Masters were still available, I would have ordered them days ago.
And lived with the rotor / dust issues .. as these stop impressively.

Got EBC pads:-)

From Autoanything Good pricings (60$ the full set and free shippings)
I have EBC pads on my Yamaha Moto .. where they outperformed the OEM pads.
So here's hoping the same happens on the Honda
