Not sure about the 8th gens, but civics can typically accept offsets between +35 to +45. I'm assuming the 8th gen is the same if not similar. Also, 225s are just a hair too wide.

If you guys don't mind I'll piggyback on this thread, I too am in the market now for wheels, and I want to be informed before I trust the tire shop's advice. The car is a 2015 LX, and I don't modify ride height or anything else.
If I recall the stock size is 195/65R15, and this site confirms it http://www.wheel-size.com/size/honda/civic/2015/ but I'm not clear how to use their tire calculator. It seems to offer many sizes when I plug in the OEM size on the left but I can't make sense of the chart of all the types. All I want is a middle-of-the-road size that's easy to find.
Can someone suggest a safe tire size and offset for a 17 inch Enkei like this http://enkei.com/shop/performance/ekm3/
but I guess from their chart there really is only 2 types to choose from(?), a 38 and 45mm offset. Speaking of the chart, it looks like the 17-7 size is all I need to know (is that a 7inch width?).
Thanks for the help.

I haven't really dug into these kind of wheel details. Another option is looking up the tire size for the same year EX model. For example my 06 EX uses the 205/55R16 this is significantly larger than the stated stock LX tire but may be smaller than the 17" tires you're looking into.

I don't fully retract my previous statement of 225's being a hair too wide without proof of fitment, but using a tire calculator, 225/45-17's won't mess with your speedometer at all (assuming perfect conditions, mind you). 225's have been a bit too wide for generations previous to the 8thgen's, hence my statement.
edit: upon further research, 225/45-17's will indeed fit an 8thgen without rubbing issues. Consider my statement of 225's being too wide fully retracted.

Why do most owners have 17" rims in this thread? http://www.9thgencivic.com/forum/whe...-thread-5.html
I need to know before I buy the 18" ones, or is just personal preference and your ride height?

For me it was personal preference. 16" didn't seem like it'd be noticable enough for a size change (15" stock) and 18" would have used a lower profile tire than I would have wanted. 17" seemed like a good balance of style and ride comfort for my DD

Thanks for the input Rice, I went with the 17s as well. One more thing, the tires on the 17s are quite a bit smaller overall than the stock size, and I don't like to stray too far from that. Is there anything I need to know when spec'ing out a new size? DO you think the 225/45 17 is the best bet? OEM was 195/65R15
edit: seems like https://tiresize.com/calculator/ using this and shopping for my exact car the 225/45 17 is the perfect match. sorry for all the noob questions!
