Hey all. Was looking at this guys civic in hopes of turning it and making some quick cash. First off, I check the oil level and it's over an inch past the full mark on the dipstick, and I checked it twice. When he jumped it (it's been sitting over a month), it had sort of a tractor sound at idle and was shaking a bit too much. He said his mechanic looked at it and said it needed a new engine, and that there was no compression in one of the cylinders.

I'm an optimist, but maybe that would be stupid in this case. I don't have the tools to throw an engine in it. Could it be smaller, fixable problems like coils and plugs and possibly drain and refill the oil?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

It was neglected bad enough to ruin the engine, so likely not much was ever done to maintain the rest of the car.
You don't want this to become your own disaster. Run far, run fast.
