I am experiencing issues locking my Civic with my FOB. Below are the symptoms...
- Horn beeps 3 times when pressing lock once and with doors and trunk closed
- Red light flashes on Dash when I press lock. If I unlock, then lock again, it will stop.
- Interior and trunk lights don't stay on when locked.

To add to the list of symptoms, if I unlock the door twice using the FOB, the horn then beeps 3 times a couple minutes afterwards. I am truly puzzled. Can't see anything online.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

2006 Civic
# of doors?
Canadian?

Is your remote fob separate from the key?
Where is your red LED located?

This sounds like an aftermarket or add-on system to me.

How can you see the trunk light?

What trim level?
# of doors?
Canadian?
4 Door EX-L Canadian
Is your remote fob separate from the key?
Where is your red LED located?
Key and FOB are all one unit. Red light is to the left of the speedometer.
I've never experienced the stock system beeping the horn 3 times under any condition.
This sounds like an aftermarket or add-on system to me.
It's definitely a stock alarm
The interior lights should turn off when locked.
How can you see the trunk light?
I'm not exactly sure what I meant by this
The sequence I see is...
I turn off the car in Park-No Blinking Red Light
I open the driver door-No Blinking Red Light
I close the driver door-Blinking Red Light
Unlocking with FOB will stop the Blinking Red Light
Locking at any time results in 3 beeps from the horn

Re: 2006 Civic Locking issues
Still sounds like the actions of an aftermarket alarm, and it may have been added as a "piggyback" to the stock system.....maybe it's a remote starter or something?
Visit some local alarm installers and ask?
What is the actual problem?
If this just happens to be how yours works now, is there an actual problem with it?
Is this some new activity from the alarm that it didn't do before?
Did you purchase the car brand new? Recent purchase?

There is no evidence of an aftermarket alarm. Only thing aftermarket is the stereo head unit.
The typical response from the alarm should be No Beep when locking (hitting the FOB once), and One Beep when arming (hitting the FOB twice).
The problem is that 3 beeps is loud and annoying. And is evidence of a problem. Also the Light flashing indicates the same. I just don't know how to diagnose.
I have also had a battery drain when leaving the light flashing. Hasn't happened since I hit the FOB unlock before arming to stop the light.
Hope this makes sense.

There is no evidence of an aftermarket alarm.
The owners manual should describe all the ways an original system worked.
What you describe does not match, therefore aftermarket unit is suspected.
Someone needs to crawl up under the dash to investigate further for non-original wiring and mysterious black boxes. Maybe someone intimately familiar with the Hondas cars or intimately familiar with various aftermarket electronics installations.

Thanks, I'll see if I can get it checked out by someone.
After doing some other investigation, it is possible that the horn is an indication of a door or latch problem.
Any ideas how I would diagnose?

If you lock up (fob) and trunk is open, the marker lights do not flash... and horn will not sound.
If you lock by lock button, and door or trunk are ajar alarm light will not illuminate.
If a door is ajar and use fob it will not lock any doors.

I purchased the car used and "inherited" this issue.
Funny how it wasn't disclosed at time of purchase.
I guess I didn't kick the tires hard enough... my bad.
Nevertheless, I'd love to fix this issue. Looked under the dash carefully and there is no evidence of an aftermarket alarm, or foreign wiring.
Taking it to my mechanic this afternoon to see if he can make any sense of it. $$$

Re: 2006 Civic Locking issues
ALSO try it out by pushing on the lock **** with your finger then closing the door.
Do note if your problem acts up when locking using each of those methods and report back.
This doesn't address my FOB concerns.

Ah, ok. I'll give it a shot this evening.
Thanks again for everyone's insight and time. I appreciate the support, and will let you know my findings once I've given it a test.

Good morning.
I basically tore the dash apart last night looking for foreign wiring. Everything appeared as it should. No wires that appeared to be aftermarket.
So I played around with the door switches. Locking and unlocking doesn't seem to initiate the red blinking on the dash, or beeps. Seems to be only the fob.
Looks like I'm back to square one
