08 Hybrid Rattling Noise when Accelerating or Coasting

Hi, I have an '08 Civic Hybrid that's developed a very annoying and loud rattle/metal on metal vibration. It sounds like it's coming from the front left tire area. It only happens when I'm moving and am not braking. It's also strange because it sometimes completely goes away for about 30 seconds before coming back, even when I'm driving at a steady speed on a flat road. A different, higher pitched sound comes on when I'm reversing. My first instinct is that it's a brake issue, specifically on the regenerative side. I've searched around and haven't been able to find any similar issues online. I haven't had a chance to get under it yet or take the tire off to look at it but I thought I would ask here before I did.

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Brake pad wear indicator squeal? Rock stuck?

Better get your own eyes and ears out and put them all on the car itself to find the noise source.
