Rep Power: 0 Airbags, airbags - how to replace, how much does it cost (approx)?
hello all, I'm looking at purchasing an 08 civic lx manual coupe that has driver *seat* airbag deployment and the drivers side *curtain* airbag deployed. Everything else in tact (except seatbelt of course).
Checking out ebay, holy moley - the airbags are $300 (best I saw) for the driver curtain and $200 for the driver seat.
Any advice on this, is it easy to do? I have a good mechanic who lets me help on these repairs sometimes, I much prefer to do things myself when possible.
Has anyone paid to have this done (dealer or other) and would share their experience?
Thanks!

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Insurance normally pays for the airbag work I do.
You should check prices on the bags through a real dealer first.
Think about the labor to replace them too.
The seat will probably need a new upper seat cover and frame. See the checklist.
You will need some pins for the A and C pillar trims, and replace whatever panels are damaged.
You will need to read fault codes. Any fault codes read should be observed and replaced/fixed.
You WILL need a SRS control unit.
Crash sensors as per inspection list.
(You cannot erase "deployment" codes, it must be replaced.)
The NEW SRS UNIT WILL NEED to be programmed by a dealer level scantool (for ODS/OPDS/SWS systems).
THEN codes can be read again, and you may discover it still needs something else. (I see this a lot, I don't trust codes from an SRS controller that has fired anything.)
Sending a checklist to your PM in a few...
