When should I change the fuel filter and spark plugs?

Hello everyone,

Spark plugs seem to be fun to change and my Civic 2009 DX-G has 105k km on it so it's probably time I should change those but I never done it.

Also, Grees & Ross told me they want to change Fuel Filter. I told them I have to consult civicforums first before I pay you a penny for it. I have never changed a fuel filter and don't know what it is.

Please guide as to how easy it is to change the fuel filter or if I need to change it? Also, same for spark plugs.

Car runs well and no problems.

Thanks

Re: When should I change the fuel filter and spark plugs?

For your spark plugs it should tell you in your owners manual when to change them, and or if you are having troube starting and notice a decrease in power will trying to accelerate. on the fuel filter, i'm not sure when you are suppost to change them but it is keeping the water and sediment from reaching your engine. so if it needs changed it also might feel like your engine isnt getting enough fuel sence the filter is full. i'm not an expert but i have heard. going to be doing it to my civic soon also. good luck.

Re: When should I change the fuel filter and spark plugs?

I do my plugs every 30k miles cause there cheap and keeps mpg up. I need to do my fuel filter also. I think 30k is suggested for fuel filter. If you use high quality gas then you could go longer. Spark plugs you can change yourself, not sure about fuel filter for your civic.

Re: When should I change the fuel filter and spark plugs?

RTFM (https://www.civicforums.com/forums/f...faq#faq_gen_q3)
Learn what the MAINTENANCE MINDER is and how it works.
Learn it, live it, love it.

The plugs are Iridium type.
Not cheap.
They are 100,000 MILE plugs, or 160,000 KM.
They can really outlast the car as long as they don't foul out.
RTFM

The fuel filter is not part of any regular service on that car. It is not serviced unless it becomes necessary (becomes a problem).
It is inside the fuel tank, part of the pump module.
It is something REAL EASY to SCAM you on, because YOU WILL NEVER EVER KNOW if the service was actually performed.
Again: RTFM

Is there a serious problem with the way the car runs?
Is the CEL onwith any codes that could possibly be related to either of your questions?
I'm guessing NO.

You need to locate a more reputable and honest shop. Preferably one that employs people that can fix more than a sammich.

Thanks ezone.

That's what I thought about the fuel filter. Yep, there are no issues with the car and I am going to tell them to bug off.

See why the Check Engine Light is on. Sound like it SHOULD be on if it runs that bad.

Having a difficult time understanding exactly what your problem is.

When you said it loses power in the earlier post, you meant electrical power?

This is lit up?

Sounds like the alternator not charging (for whatever reason) is the biggest problem then. Fix that problem first.
May need an alternator, may be something else like wires or fuse.

Only a bad alternator would need replaced.
Why would a smart person replace a good one?

Is yours bad? I have no way of answering that from where I sit.
(32k seems quite premature, but I've seen all sorts of problems over the years.)

Many other things could be wrong that cause the exact same symptom.

Test, don't guess.

For this light here?:

Absolutely not.

Quit guessing.
There must be a logical process to diagnosing it. Guesses aren't part of it.

You probably should just take it to a dealer.
