Suddenly no reverse or 5th gear-gear stuck won't move to the right at all

Without any real previous problems, I got in my Honda 2006 Civic Sedan and the alarm went off. After that, probably unrelated to alarm, suddenly I can't move the gear stick to the right at all-not in neutral, 5th or reverse. 1st through 4th are fine with no problem. I have heard a mild grinding noise going into reverse 2 or 3 times, but no real difficulty on 2nd try going into gear, and no previous problems going into 5th. Also, windows and doors have been locking or staying locked for the last few days but seem OK now-probably also unrelated or something I did. Anyway, I see quite a few references to similar problems in this forum, but when I called HONDA for a repair appointment, the mechanic stated that he had never heard of any related problem previous to my call. Based on what I have read in forum threads just today that seems HIGHLY unlikely. If any one has had this problem and gotten it resolved or knows the likely cause, I would greatly appreciate information. I am older but not an idiot and I know the Honda mechanic is going to tell me it is the clutch or the transmission that need replacing, no matter what is really wrong. Please help before Monday 9/12/11 if you possibly can, or any time after that if necessary! Please help if you can and Thanks!!!

Re: Suddenly no reverse or 5th gear-gear stuck won't move to the right at all

Is your car still under warranty? I mean, it's hard to say by not actually driving the car. I'm assuming 6th gear is gone too? Does the shifter move into the gates while the car is stationary? If you can't get into gear while moving(excluding reverse because it's not synchronized and you should be fully stopped or else you'll get gear clash), you could have worn synchros or a linkage issue.

No the car is not still under warranty, and I don't have a 6th gear??? It does not shift into 5th whether moving or stationary. The gear stick will not move to the right at all, therefore clearing in neutral, 5th gear or reverse are impossible. Thanks!

Sorry about that. Haha. I was reading a thread on an Si earlier and was still thinking about it. I only have those two ideas off the top right now. Sorry.

So, Mountain Cat ...What happened to your lost gears ? What fixed it ? New clutch I presume ?

Re: Suddenly no reverse or 5th 8-gear stuck won't move to the right at all

Any luck? My 2010 civic randomly stopped letting me shift today. I can only go into 5th. Can't put in neutral, reverse or any lower gears
