Rep Power: 0 How to change Ignition Switch - '99 Civic LX?
My car has been randomly dying on me. Further investigation leads to the ignition switch. Just bought a new one (didn't qualify for the recall), and I have NO CLUE how to do the change.
Anybody know, or know of a site that'll help me out? It's a 1999 Honda Civic LX.
As a side note, I found instructions on how to do it on a '99 Honda Accord. Is it basically the same?
Thanks!

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Bust out a couple screwdrivers, see what you can accomplish.
Remove the steering column covers, you will see the part to change.
Follow the wiring to the connectors, see what it will take to reach them. (Probably removing the lower dash panel.)
Make sure you can get the screws out of the switch body and the switch will come out. Without having to do a whole lot more work.
You got a small switch attached to the new ignition switch wiring? I would leave the old one already on the lock (if it still works right), and maybe splice its wires to the new harness. Leave plenty of room for the splice to be under the dash, you don't want the splice up in the column covers.

Here is a step by step guide of how to change the ignition switch on a '99 Civic DX auto. Should be very similar to '96-'00 Civics.
