First time Honda owner here.
I needed a cheap vehicle that I could take back and forth to work (80 mile round trip), so I bought a 2005 Civic EX automatic for $1K. It's mechanically sound. Has original motor and transmission. I've been using it as my daily driver for a couple weeks now with no issues at all.
How long can I expect this to last before it starts giving me major problems? I'd like to hear some people's personal experiences with high mileage 7th gens. I searched some threads but they were mostly older.
The car is bone stock, never been messed with. I also live in a dry mild temperature climate that I think is ideal for cars.
How much does a JDM motor install or auto transmission replacement typically cost on these cars?

It will last for as long as you keep fixing it.
Else, get one of those little suitcase size gas scooters, toss it in the back and drive the car it till it dies and just abandon it on the side of the road. ( 40 miles is too far to comfortably walk )

How Long it will Last? depends alot on How well the up keep on mantainance was done and how it was driven ex: hard vs easy and the over-all exterior condition of the vehicle.? all You can check for now are all Fluids for Condition, coloure, if they look old or like never been changed change the mystery fluids out same for Air filter etc. to extend longevity in the vehicle.

Should last a long time just keep up on your maintenance and change your trans fluid frequently. Do you know when the timing belt was last changed? If not you should do that asap

I got 270K on mine. It is my daily driver. I have changed all parts you would expect, including all seals, the infamous oil pump O ring, all suspension parts, etc. Mine runs great, original head gasket, no overheating issues at all. Good luck with yours. Best way to maintain it is to learn to do all maintenance yourself if you dont know how to already. Good luck.

Motors can be found pretty cheap ($500) and another 2-300 for the transmission. Longevity really depends on how well it was maintained. If maintained well I would expect the engine and internals to go 500k miles. Of course things like alternators and brake calipers are going to wear and fail but the major internals will be good.
7th gens did have a head gasket issue that some people seem to get while others avoid.
