Rpm at 500?

So just bought a em2 2003 ex and I noticed the rpms are 500 at a dead stop. Other then that it runs great. Has 129,600 miles on it. Is an automatic transmission. I believe it' a vacuum leak but wanted to double check.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: Rpm at 500?

Are you watching the tach on the dash? I won't trust that to be absolutely accurate. I sooner trust the data displayed in a real scanner data list

Does it SOUND like it's idling too low? Is it a problem?
Tried cleaning throttle body and make sure IAC is not stuck, rotating valve oscillates freely?
Relearn idle?

Vacuum leak not likely. Vacuum leak will normally cause RPM to raise.

no not yet. Been driving it for a few days to see how everything works out. But tomorrow gonna go over the whole car and see what I need to replace or fix. The reason why I have some concerns are because when I'm at a constant throttle it seems to bog down some. Then when I am at a red light, I notice it feels like it has a good compression drop. But during accel it does just fine. Don't seem like a huge issue. It just has my attention.
