Unhappy d16z6 exhaust size? 2 or 2.25?!

so i was looking around on i think clubcivic and somebody posted that 2" is good for d series, 2.25 for b, and 2.5 for h. i own a d16 and already bought a cat and muffler 2.25". my motor is 100% stock, going to throw on cone air filter, high performance.. i know, and megan header and exhaust. do you think that 2.25" is too big for my stock car and i'm going to lose power?!? and by the way, not doing the whole fart can thing. megan header, magnaflow high flow cat, flowmaster 60 series muffler and a nice tip, not 4-6".. lol. i would like to find a nice tip like this one but i dunno about the brand "kool vue" and plus the tip is kinda short and cheap looking. any advice where to find a nice tip similair to the style of this one? thanks a lot everyone, and btw, i have searched countless hours on the internet, so your help is appreciated. thanks. thishttp://www.discountbodyparts.com/catalog/images/prodimage/thumbs/kool_vue/KV160105.jpg

Re: d16z6 exhaust size? 2 or 2.25?!

2.25" is fine. I have a full 2.25" on my d15b7 and it sounds great not ricey and I can actually feel the difference. 2.5 is definitely too big for a d series period unless its turbo. The myth though that you "need" backpressure and that too big of an exhaust takes it away is total bull ****. If you have too big of an exhaust and not enough flow (like having a very small displacement engine) you exhaust actually slows down, cools down and expands so the next exhaust pulse that comes in hits it and creates back pressure. You really don't want any back pressure but like I said too big of an exhaust creates it. Hearing about people losing low end torque from too big of an exhaust is because down low obviously there's hardly any exhaust flow so it creates back pressure in too big of an exhaust but the exhaust may be border line and still flow right up top and flow good for it. Anyways sorry for the novel I just can't stand that myth. 2.25" sounds great when its catless with a resonator in place of that another resonator downstream and a decent can stlye muffler at the back. My b7 sounds almost like a scooby with it on. Look up ek4 2.25" exhaust on youtube and look at the video of the red hatch. It sounds glorious. Hope this helps!

Re: d16z6 exhaust size? 2 or 2.25?!

thank you. really glad the 2.25 will work for my stock d. and dude your car sounds AWESOME! I would be really happy if mine sounds deep like that. what size tip do you have? i recently bought am awaiting to install: megan 4-2-1 2 piece header, flowmaster muffler (just the black 60 series stock replacement style without tip connected), magnaflow hi flow cat, 2.25 tubing (my buddy owns an exhaust shop, cheap custom bent tubing), and in search of classy smaller polished stainless tip. not droppin the cat, gotta stay legal and hopefully sound good not ricey! oh btw, do i need a resonator also? or is my exhaust complete? thanks a lot guys i appreciate it. i am a noob here, and overall to the tuner world, but i will learn in time

Re: d16z6 exhaust size? 2 or 2.25?!

Personally I really hate how flowmasters sound but to each his own. I'd say just run one resonator with that and the cat and it should help keep the ricey sound down and keep it decently quiet but good flowing. My buddys old ls integra has almost that exact setup minus the reonator and it sounded really ricey but we threw a resonator on and it was kinda quiet for my tastes but wayyy better sounding. That hatch isn't mine it just sounds almost exactly like mine. I have an eg sedan . Just my daily that gets 40+ mpg and looks sexy doing it. Plus handles like an adult go kart. It'll be more fun when I get a vtec tranny in and put the y8 head I have waiting on. Don't be scared of modding these cars. If you mess up they'll take it. One of the beautiful things about hondas. That and the fifty bagillion parts out there for them.

Re: d16z6 exhaust size? 2 or 2.25?!

after hearing a flowmaster 60 on a civic, (like i have but not installed) and hearing another civic with different exhaust, forget the flowie, i want this one! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BA9_aFnYhg
this is the best sounding civic i've ever heard. awesome sound, reminds me of a subaru kinda.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzbPN62-aaY
this second like is to the flowmaster on a civic and the first one i am wondering what exhaust it is. maybe a link to the seller? the flowmaster one just sounds too quiet, i think if i do use the flowie, i will drop the resonator to hopefully get a nice tone. but i would like to but the same muffler as the guy on the first video and sell mine. anyone looking for a new flowmaster 60 series single in/out 2.25"?

I would go with a smaller outlet than 4.5 though. I have NO 4th or 5th gear power. all though my 0-130 MPH is great, Once I shift into 4th and 5th, Not enough back pressure too actually take the hell off. Id say you should be fine, I am sure your exhaust setup will work better than mine.
so i dunno if i should get a tip that big. was planning on using the flowmaster with a dual tip kinda like this...

but this tip is 3' dual, so 6" total. is this too big for my stock d16, and am i going to loose power? sorry for all the questions.. just dont wunna buy the wrong thing.. thank you

Re: d16z6 exhaust size? 2 or 2.25?!

From my experience the only way to get that nice deep tone is with bigger tips. 4" isn't too big, its what my system has and I like its looks and sound. The system on that ek4 was an apexi n1 knockoff from ebay actually. The tip size or shape isn't really going to affect exhaust flow just tone. How its pointed exiting the car does but its not significant enough to care on a stock d series.

thanks burrsg101. damn im so back and forth.... sorry. so im either doing the flowmaster, cat, no resonator, and a dual tip like i showed, or im going to buy this muffler, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-M...#ht_1740wt_732 cat, and resonator? prolly not, want it loud.. but hate when the "rice" brakes loose about 4 grand. really appreciate all the feedback! i will make a vid and put on youtube when its all said and done so you can all hear. thanks again
