Re: compression test help

are you trying to do a compression check or a spark check?

because the only time you put the spark plug to a ground is to see if a spark comes out. you just pull it out from the valve cover and put it to a nut or something that is grounded if you hear and see a spark than that one is good...

as for compression
you need a compression meter and you hook it up to the Cly and then get the reading off the guage. you test each one. find out what it should be in the book and then if one of them is low then there is no compression.

good luck

Re: compression test help

for a compression test you first need the gauge, than take out each spark plug and screw in the tester than crank the engine for about 3 seconds and than note the reading on the gauge

Re: compression test help

In the Haynes book described that you need to disable the gas pump by taking the main relay out, also lock the throttle body in a full open position and take the primary cable from the center of the distributor cap and ground it, is this necessary to get an accurate reading
thank you
