Hi all,
I have a 97 DX coupe (5spd) with 93,000 miles, that i'm looking to fix up or get repaired. The only problems with the car that I notice so far are the bottom is pretty rusty, so i'll need to replace all of that out, and replace the basics like the battery, and the timing belt. The car was only owned by 1 person before me in the northern midwest region of the US, so it makes sense that it's rusty from the medium/hard winters.
My question is, do you suppose this car still has a clean engine, and transmission considering the frame of the car is on its last leg? Also looking for advice if there is anything else that could go wrong with this car besides the engine, transmission with the shape that it's in? Seems to be in great shape besides the rust, let me know what you guys think.
Appreciate the info and suggestions,
- 90sguy

engine and trans will still be strong for many years to come provided they've been properly maintained.
my girlfriend's '99 has almost 400,000 kms on it still on the original engine and auto trans, mechanically it's great however the body is starting to go, all cosmetic issues, no structural issues.
make sure you check the condition of the gas and brake lines, because if the body is rusty they may need attention as well.
post up some pictures so we can see how bad the rust is
