ATF fluid of choice

My son just bought a 99 EX. I was going to drain the ATF, what is the fluid of choice? Is it better to just buy Honda branded at the dealer?

Re: ATF fluid of choice

In the service manual's recommended ATF weight you can use the following two substitutes. Many threads on both so use at your own option/risk:

Valvoline Maxlife Multi-Vehicle full synthetic with seal sweller : https://www.walmart.com/ip/Valvoline...&wl13=&veh=sem

Castrol Import Multi-Vehicle partial/blended synthetic and no seal sweller:
https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

I've used both 6th & 7th gens and they both worked well with no issues.

Yes. Only $10 more than Valvoline per gallon.
