I have a 2000 EX 5-speed with the d16y8. The car sputters and jerks in first gear when I start to pull out in 1st gear. It does this every time unless I slip the clutch really hard. Obviously I don't want to skip the clutch every time I drive it so I'm wondering what the issue is. I do have a CEL for the throttle position sensor even though I just replaced that. Could it have to do with the clutch or is it something else? Car has 137K miles but I'm not sure if the clutch has been replaced or not.

CEL code?
What does the tachometer read in first gear?
Have you checked throttle cable tension?
Have you inspected the shift linkage locateded on the transmission housing?

It only does it when I'm first starting out so only first gear....I just checked the codes again and it has a couple more now...it has P0122, P1259, P0135 and P1457.....I replaced the bushings on the shift linkages not too long ago. It almost feels like I'm trying to start out in 3rd gear when I'm in 1st or like im letting the clutch out too fast but I'm sure I'm not.

P1259: https://www.engine-codes.com/p1259_honda.html
P0135: https://www.engine-codes.com/p0135_honda.html
P1457: https://www.autocodes.com/p1457_honda.html
Some of these codes may be a universal and not Honda specific.
P0122: Try cleaning the throttle body (without removing) with a toothbrush, Throttle body cleaner (only), and a rag.
Test the TPS sensor: per manual or search DIY's/Youtubes.
Related links P0122: https://www.google.com/search?q=p012....0.vIPiwMqgXvE
After cleaning the throttle body and testing TPS..do an ECU reset/idle relearn. This will clear the codes however, some or all may return.
P1259: Make sure engine oil level is correct. Remove Vtec solenoid and clean filter screen with brake or TB cleaner. Clean inside the Vtec solenoid with TB or brake cleaner (Youtubes). Related links: https://www.google.com/search?q=p125....0.LHOQLu3kINE

o2 Sensor OEM part is Denso 234-4733 (if needs replacement). Related search: https://www.google.com/search?source....0.shAIWYwHN0A
P1457: Related search: https://www.google.com/search?q=2000....0.NYcuJG1SvaE
I doubt if all these issues are happening at once..most likely related to one source which needs to be tracked down.

I forgot to mention to inspect motor mounts..espcecially the lower/rear on firewall.
Does the car vibrate (clutch chatter) when you release the clutch? Possibly a weak pressure plate?
