The next tranny service is coming up at 270,000 miles. With that many miles, and with it shifting as it should, I'm thinking maybe I should apply the don't fix what's not broke rule. What do you think?

Thanks, I'll have Honda do it. I suspect they'll try up selling optional tranny related services, shall I turn it all down and go for whatever the book calls for?

If you've got 270k on a 17 year old car, you've probably got a lot more than just a trans service that could stand some attention LOL
A basic trans service is just a a simple fluid drain and fill. It's easier than changing your oil, if you want to DIY it.
Wait, is this a manual or automatic trans?

If you've got 270k on a 17 year old car, you've probably got a lot more than just a trans service that could stand some attention LOL
A basic trans service is just a a simple fluid drain and fill. It's easier than changing your oil, if you want to DIY it.

Don't use any mechanical hardware to pressurize/vacuum out the fluid.
Issues can arise on these transmissions with that technique.
Just drain the fluid from the transmission, then fill it through the dipstick hole if it is large enough, or, through the large 17mm plug on top of the transmission.
You can use Honda DW-1 ATF which covers the original Honda Z1 ATF.
-I usually drain it
-fill to spec
-run it for 10 minutes
-shift through the gears, 5 seconds in each one.
-drain it, again (for torque converter)
-fill to spec. again.
Issues can arise on these transmissions with that technique.

Those are almost always found at JizzyLube places and many independent shops, but some dealers have the same equipment and use it too.
In our shop we do not use chemicals nor flush machine.
